Teams would pick and choose only the big races to run, and even the champion wouldn't start all the season's events. 6. This track is bigger than Bristol & Martinsville, and 500 laps there would be longer than the races at either of those tracks. It drew 32 cars in this race, which isn't a bad field size for a short track of that size in that time period. Of course, the only "big names" in the field were Bobby Allison, Tiny Lund & Buck Baker. 8. Weird they'd use doublespeak (e.g. 'user fee' instead of 'tax' or 'the patient retained the surgical scissors' instead of 'we left the surgical scissors inside the patient') with something like a long-defunct speedway, but whatever. 9. This would be the 12th and final top-5 of his career, coming in his third to last Cup series start. 11. Tiny Lund was the best finishing pony car in 2nd, 1 lap down in his Camaro. The other Grand Am drivers were Ernie Shaw, Frank Sessions, Wayne Andrews, Joe Dean Huss, Buck Baker, Randy Hutchinson, H.B. Bailey, Jim Paschal, Bob Williams, & David Ray Boggs. 12. It's very much still intact but abandoned 13. possum posted: 07.12.2020 - 3:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @12 - it is most certainly not abandoned. It's for sale and can be yours for a measly $1.2 million (still not included). The current owner would like to see the track reopened. The track opened in 1966, and as far as I can tell the last local "Saturday Night" racing was in 1985. If they ran at all in 1986 it must have just been early in the year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
