How often does that happen today? 4. 18fan posted: 09.30.2008 - 1:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Petty won by 7 laps because Issac and Pearson had mechanical failures, He had the third best car in the race and he and Allison were the only contenders left. 5. bigjohnson posted: 06.12.2009 - 2:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) 18fan wrote: "Petty won by 7 laps because Issac and Pearson had mechanical failures, He had the third best car in the race and he and Allison were the only contenders left." Well his transmission wasn't "third best" since it was better than Pearson's and his engine wasn't "third best" either since it was better than Issac's. Petty's car was the best that day. In order to win a race don't you have to FINISH it first. 6. It's why I never liked him not to mention his stuborness and ornery personality. 11. It turned out to be a good choice as Pearson, making just his second-ever start with the team after winning at Darlington on debut, led a nice chunk of the race but the Woods' #21 Ford came up short when the transmission conked out while he was leading late in the race. Despite sitting on the sidelines they still picked up a top-10 finish. 13. Video is from Martinsville for absolute certain, the original graphic near the beginning says 1972, and the #21 Wood Brothers car is a Mercury. Only way Pearson could have been in a Ford is if he relief-drove for someone else, but that seems highly unlikely since he made it to lap 470 of 500 in the car he started the race with. 16. However, he's often overlooked in the "old rookies" category because of the man who won the award 3 years prior, Dick Trickle, at age 47 (19 years after his first Cup race.) I certainly wonder how well Hensley could've done if he'd had a good Cup ride at age 26 instead of a mediocre one at 46. I bet he could've been very successful, given what he did in other series. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
