James Hylton held on for a car length victory over Ramo Stott driving Junie Donlavey's #90. 2. underdogfan posted: 02.13.2006 - 10:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Great upset win for Hylton. He and Stott, on old tires and in used up equipment, put laps on the top dogs of the day like Petty, Yarborough, Pearson, and Allison. 3. His cars are not up to speed with the rest of the competition, unfortunately. When Hylton took the green flag in the Busch Series 2006 AT&T 250 at the Milwaukee Mile, he became the oldest driver to compete in a NASCAR race. At the ARCA Pocono 200 this past June at the Pocono Raceway, Hylton fielded the #48 car with a paint scheme identical to the one the car sported in his win at Talladega. 4. James is looking forward to returing to the site of his biggest career win. 5. After most of them fell out of contention with tire related problems -- Richard Petty's team frantically scrambled down pit road trying to find the older compound -- Hylton took the lead and managed to hold on, although Stott charged up and probably would've gotten by him had the race been a lap longer. 6. Irony for two Daytona 500 winners... On the same day that Darrel Waltrip leads his first laps, Pete Hamiliton leads his last. 9. Marvin Mills owned a small southern-based heating and air conditioning business (aptly named J. Marvin Mills Heating & Air Conditioning). He was apparently quite successful, as he also fielded a car for driver John Sears for quite some time. Now you know. 13. For this race Goodyear designed a new treaded tire they thought would work. It turned out to be a failure with some tires lasting just 10 laps. The drivers who were using old tires had a huge advantage, Waltrip was one of them as was eventual winner James Hylton. Waltrip actually led 7 laps before his engine blew up. All was not bad for Waltrip who was short on funds at the time. This is directly from the book - " I won $680 from my 27th place finish but I made $1500 from selling the rest of my tires to the other teams. I was able to pay for all the gear I had signed for." 16. And it turned out to be the winning thing- the Goodyears were blowing every 10 laps it seemed. 21. Future Winston Cup champion car owners Billy Hagan and Richard Childress finished 10th and 13th. I believe this race was run in conjunction with IMSA. 23.
