The two alternates for this race were Phil Finney ('72 Chevrolet) and
Richard Childress ('72 Chevelle).

Richard Petty's 150th win didn't come easy as the STP #43 Dodge ended up
in an early crash with Neil Castles' #06 Dodge that left the two-tone
Petty Blue and Red special missing its right front fended. The damage
didn't slow down the King as he while he didn't lead until the second
half of the race he started taking control once he got up front, pulling
away to a solid win over Buddy Baker while everyone else was at least
three laps back.
