Canadian motorcycle racing ace Yvon DuHamel finishes 10th in his only
NASCAR start of any form.

Cecil Gordon was on the lead lap late in the race until a flat tire on a
restart cost him a top 3 finish. His brother Lee Gordon had chosen to
run a higher gear so as to maintain traction due to less wheel spin off
the turns.My first race ever in the pits and I was hooked!

Yvon DuHamel also entertained the crowd pre race by making a few laps on
his Kawasaki. Got a cool pic of him passing the flag stand.

#06- I have a pic that clearly shows WARD FURN painted on the side.
Don't see any visible damage that could have taken off the HO of HOWARD,
who has been Neil's sponsor all year. It could have been damaged in
practice and repaired but couldnt get the sponsors name repaired...
imagine that happening today!!

I would leave it at HOWARD Furniture.

A very strange weekend for Cale Yarborough and Junior Johnson. Before
the weekend Junior decided to use 366 c.i. engine, hoping that reduced
front weight would improve handling. However something went wrong and
after Friday morning practice the decision was made to install a regular
engine (427 c.i.) in the team's garage not far from the track. By the
time Junior brought the car back to the track there was no time to
adjust the setup for qualifying. The result? It was the first time a
Johnson car failed to qualify on the first day at his home track.

Since Saturday practice was a washout, there was no chance to prepare
the car properly for the race and Yarborugh struggled the whole
distance, finishing 6th.

Tiny Lund was due to start 28th but withdrew, Earl Brooks was added to
the field to replace him.
