The California 100 for Sportsman Cars was run on the day before this
race, the winner was Hershel McGriff followed by Ron Hornaday Sr., Roy
Bleckert, Ivan Baldwin and James Sanderson.

Interesting that the Roger Penske Matador did not run after the car
dominated the previous race here.

Mark Donohue drove in an SCCA race at Watkins Glen the day before this.
Maybe Penske didn't consider this event a high priority without that ace
up his sleeve?

Bobby Allison picks up the second of his six career wins at Riverside in
dominate fashion as finishes ahead of runner-up Richard Petty by more
than a minute with everyone else lapped. Petty's second-place finish
marked the first time that he finished a race at Riverside but didn't win.

Winston West driver Jimmy Insolo turns in a nice run as he finishes a
strong fourth against the big boys from out east. Insolo had top-5
finishes in both Cup races here at Riverside in 1973. These were the
only Cup races he ran all year.

Winston West regular Richard White scores his best Cup finish with 6th
in only his second series start. His debut saw him net 8th in the
previous Riverside race, and these were his only Cup top 10s.
