First of two known races that Benny Parsons car was incorrectly
identified at Nashville twice over a two year span. Benny was driving a
72 Monte Carlo in this race.

Richard Petty had a nice comeback. He was involved in the race's first
two cautions, including the big one on lap 66, but ultimately still
rallied back to finish second behind Buddy Baker, albeit four laps behind.

This was a rough night for Richard Childress. His #96 was involved in
all three of the race's cautions. The last wreck that put him out of the
race may have been a mercy kill since he was already more than 20 laps
down at the time.

Darrell Waltrip makes his first Cup start in a General Motors product as
he replaced his old Mercury with a new Chevrolet for this race at his
home track. Waltrip qualified well and put the #95 Terminal Transport
Chevy out front early on by beating polesitter Cale Yarborough out of
the pits but Yarborough got back around him shortly after the restart
and a failed rear end gear ultimately sent DW to the sidelines well
before halfway.
