allison got fresh tires on a late pit stop and ran down petty on the
final lap. one of the most exciting races ever at wilkesboro. it's a
shame more isn't documented about it.

Bobby Allison bests Richard Petty at North Wilkesboro to exact some
sweet revenge. The King came into this race looking to win his fourth
race in a row at the North Carolina short track only to have Allison,
who finished second to Petty in both 1972 races here, crash the party
with that last lap pass.

Richard Brown qualified 30th but withdrew, allowing Earl Brooks to start.
