Most of the races in 1974 were cut by 10% because of the 1973 oil crisis.

David Pearson wins his second World 600. This was the Silver Fox's first
win at Charlotte since he picked up his first career Cup win in this
event back in 1961.

The late Jim Vandiver comes home eight in his signature #31 Dodge. The
car Vandiver drove in this race, and many others, was later preserved in
exactly the condition it came off the track after its final race.
Champion crew chief Ray Evernham later purchased it, the sale being
featured on his television series "Americarna," with Vandiver being
interviewed briefly in the episode. It aired about a year before his
passing in 2015.

Carl Adams qualified his Ford 38th but withdrew, giving first alternate
Buddy Arrington a start. Second alternate was Iggy Katona in a Chevrolet.
