With only a few laps remaining Driver Bobby Allison, known for his ability to endure high temperatures in his racer, was well on his way to victory when he was apparently overcome by the heat which so often seemed to work in his favor. As he was exiting turn nine at race speed, he suddenly slowed and veered into his pit unannounced telling his crew at the last moment the car was out of gas. By the time his crew put a dash of fuel in the car and helped the disoriented Allison get the car in gear and rolling once again Cale Yarbrough took the lead and went on to win the event. After the race it was determined there was suficient gas in Allison's car to have finished the race without the stop. 2. We had a Big Block Ford 427 Cu In, and were restricted with a spacer below the carb. that took away about a 100 HP. Big Blocks were on their way out. I started dead last, paced myself, made one tire change the whole race. It was the best time in my racing career. Buck Peralta, #20, Dundee, OR 3. It would be the highlight of his day as a blown engine early sent Follmer to the sidelines. 6. Interesting to see Follmer bounced back so quick to get one-off in the Penske Matador here although it did end with a quick retirement. Follmer would only make one more start all season after this, doing a one-off in Junie Donlavey's #90 in the season finale at Ontario. 9. rateus posted: 02.19.2021 - 5:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Carl Adams qualified for Frank Warren. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
