He was a great driver and might have been able to contend for championships. 3. Also, the final Cup start for Pee Wee Wentz. :) 4. He really should have gotten a longer stay in NASCAR. 5. The late Hendrick is best known for his performance in the modifieds and was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998. 7. When Flash was sidelined with motor problems I went up to Richie Panch's pits. His crew was an assortment of weekend help. Pitting on the back stretch he came in for service, right sides and fuel. The car fell off the jack and the fun began. I took the jack that I was leaning on, went over the wall,(my first time ever!) and jacked the car up. I was then jack man for the rest of the race. Lesson learned, do not grab the hot tires coming off the car as I did because they blistered pads on all four fingers. It did not matter because I had made it over the wall!!!. What a great time to be 19 years old. 16. It would be more than three and a half years before he made another Cup appearance. 17. Rob posted: 01.23.2017 - 6:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cale Yarborough looked to have this race won. It was a huge surprise to everyone when he blew an engine with 79 laps to go. 18. Altracing posted: 04.01.2017 - 10:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) First time a rookie ever won at Martinsville 19. Mannoroth posted: 02.14.2019 - 2:53 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Earl Ross broke the 23 race winning streak of the Big 3 of the 1974 season. Petty, Yarborough and Pearson managed to win 27 out of 30 races in 1974 and the only other drivers to win a race were Bobby Allison, who won twice, and Earl Ross. Just a little fact, if someone wants to complain how "bad" 2008 and 2018 seasons were... 20.
