Petty and Pearson led 317 of the 328 laps. Lennie Pond blew his engine
with eight laps to go just as Pearson was about to unlap himself from
Petty after he pitted for an out of round tire. Pond took out Elmo
Langley, Skip Manning, and Warren Tope. This set up a one lap dash with
Petty beating Baker

#25 Jabe Thomas was a DNQ - probably a good thing, as he was in great
pain with a bad back and could not even walk upright through the pit area.

In a rare appearance, Johnny Rutherford survived a horrendous wreck
which tore off most of the leftside sheet metal and completely destroyed
the #83.

Other participants of note: West Coasters Harry Jefferson #95 and Carl
Adams #65, who both put up good finishes, AJ Foyt, and Warren Tope in
his 2nd and last WC start (died 4 months later).

DC: Jackie Rogers #28 Gilmore-Foyt-Ellington Hoss Ellington Chevrolet.

Rogers qualified the car for Foyt.

@8 I find that surprising. You typically see most of the low numbers taken.
