I remember listening to this race on the radio(MRN with Ken Squire and others) as an 11 year old kid. Petty had to change four tires early on under green and fell a lap down. He rallied back and proceeded to lap the field! 5. Matt posted: 04.21.2006 - 3:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Lone start for African-American driver Randy Bethea. 6. He won a World 600 qualifying race in 1961, back when qualifying races were points events. 16. Also, this was the start of the RPMEERRIIP, which is the Richard Petty Modern Era Eleven Race Run of Incredible and Inhuman Proportions, during which he finished either first or second for eleven straight races, and increased his point lead by 575 points. 17. Later he did qualify the car owned and driven by Henley Gray in the 30th starting spot. 18. Also, Elmo Langley is shown as a DNQ in this race in the exact same ride he used to run the race in. Thus, Langley should not be a DNQ, and should be scratched from the DNQ list which has 4 other drivers besides Langley in it. 21. mkl62 posted: 12.22.2014 - 6:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dale driving the #8 for Ed Negre. Allison led a lap early on at the Brickyard but ultimately fell out just past the planned halfway mark. Rain would cut the 500 short with Bobby Unser winning. 29. Dale Earnhardt finished 22nd in what was then the World 600, his only race of 1975. Right behind him in 23rd was Richard Childress, the car owner with whom Earnhardt would later win six of his seven series championships. Both drivers were running at the finish, 45 laps down." This is how Dale Earnhardt SR and I talked Dad into letting him drive the older car at @CLTMotorSpdwy in the world 600 for his first NASCAR cup race in the blue #8car and Dad drove the yellow #2car 33. possum posted: 07.02.2020 - 8:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @32 - so Earnhardt drove Ed Negre's car, while Negre drove Dave Marcis's car, while Marcis drove Nord Krauskopf's car. Somehow Ed Negre had an amazing talent for adding confusion to the owner stats :-) 34. Problems are discovered on the pace laps as they happened to been using the same frequency as Bud Moore's team. This meant that Bud Moore, Buddy Baker, Leonard Wood and David Pearson could all hear and talk to each other. At one point, Moore called Baker into the pits. Pearson thought the call for him and came in to the confusion of the Wood Brothers who weren't expecting him. Later Pearson actually thanked Baker over the radio for letting him through. It wasn't all bad as both drivers still came away with a Top 5. 35. rateus posted: 02.19.2021 - 8:39 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bill Dennis qualified for Elmo Langley, Dick May qualified for Travis Tiller and Tommy Gale qualified for Bill Champion. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
