Is the margin of victory listed correct? If I'm remembering correctly,
this is the race that made me a Buddy Baker fan. I thought I was viewing
it live, but was probably one of those ABC Wide World of Sports
broadcasts a week after the fact. Anyway, my memory of it was that Petty
held off Baker by a few feet at the finish line. Seems that I remember
reading in Stock Car Racing Magazine that Moore and Baker kept changing
right side tires while the left side was worn out. Petty took lefts on
his last stop that helped the handling of his car. Does anyone else
remember this?

Perhaps at some point, MRN will post this race on the Throwback Thursday
series. We get the 77 rendition this week.

To spotter... I haven't been able to find any video of the 75-77
Firecracker 400's. Not sure what the deal is there. I did find a New
York Times article on this race and it bears out that Petty won by the
margin stated.

Another one that the Ole King snookered...Baker dominates the race, but
Petty changes the right tires and that was the difference.

A certain irony in the former hydroplane racer going out because of a
'water pump'.

Carl Adams only Cup start at Daytona nets him a Top 10. It was the first
of a stretch of three straight Top 10 finishes for the Californian.

In addition to Williams moving aside for Ballard, Henley Gray also
qualified for Dick May.
