He finally unlapped himself under green with 20 laps to go, but there was no time left to catch leaders Parsons and Brooks. That's when Buddy Arrington parked his car in a turn and tried to bring out a yellow. Officials ruled he was out of the groove and kept it green. Arrington then drove to the pits, talked with his crew, and then went out again and parked in the high speed groove forcing officials to throw the yellow. He was black flagged, but the damage was done. Petty was able to close the gap and got by Brooks and Parsons on the restart and won the race. Arrington had just purchased a car hauler from the Petty's, so it was reckoned that he never had to make that final payment! 2. biffle16 posted: 05.20.2007 - 11:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Randy Tissot's final Cup start. 3. autryvilleracefan posted: 10.17.2011 - 2:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I read in the old, out-of-print book, "King Richard," that Richard Petty and David Pearson made some offhand, joking remarks to a news reporter about retirement not long before the Delaware 500. Soon a rumor made headlines that the King and the Silver Fox were ready to retire from racing. After his dominating win in the Delaware 500, Richard hushed the rumors and said he hoped to have at least another 10 more good years in racing. His remark wasn't far off, as his last win came nearly 10 years later in 1984. 4.
