This was the last time to date a #3 car was fielded in the Cup series by an owner other than Richard Childress 2. Bill's father bought it from Bobby Allison. From Bill's autobiography: "Then we took that old Panch Torino and we went to Atlanta and tried to make the race there. With me behind the wheel, the Torino hit only 147 mph, and we failed to qualify in our own backyard. Then we had to change the body because it was a '72 model." 6. @Statscrash posted: 08.17.2018 - 3:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Was Bill's first attempt at Cup would make his first start in '76 7. Could it have rained at the track but not the airport? Possibly, but I'm not sure how to find out. Hopefully someone out there knows for sure. 9. When it finally rolled around Hill finished 13th in the event he helped advertise. 10. rateus posted: 02.19.2021 - 10:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dick May qualified for Elmo Langley. The two alternates for this race were Mel Larson and Jim Hurtubise so they can be added to the non-qualifiers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
