cale came from way behind to win. at one point he was four laps down.

Cale had the fastest car by far, but he ran over his air hose early and
got held a lap, and later he had an electrical problem that he had to
pit for and lost at least 2 laps. All that didn't seem to matter as he
made up the laps and won the race.

This race was held on the same day of the famous 1976 Tehran, Iran UFO
incident.

Apparently, this race actually had 37 cars in it. According to the
archived results from NASCAR.com, Budd Hagelin started 37th in the #02
Red Lion Auto Dodge, finishing 37th after going out after 3 laps due to
oil pressure issues. Presumably he also owned the car as was the case in
the first Dover race that year.

This win gave Pearson at least 1 win at each of the 16 tracks in use at
the time. Petty still lacked Ontario on his resume (and would never add
that track in his career)

Walter Ballard.
