Because Marcis won, Lewis said he was gonna be a Marcis fan. Some wiser race fans talked him out of it & steered him toward being a "Jaws" fan. 3. Why do some teams in the 70s don't get points? It doesn't make any sense! 7. Spen posted: 08.10.2012 - 3:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) They were probably post-entries. They still cropped up as late as the the 2000's, but were far more common in the '70's and early '80's. 8. 44andJoe posted: 12.12.2012 - 4:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Gene Felton's only Cup start. 9. Who would've known that in this race, 2 years later, Dale would run the race that would lead to him basically taking Dave's job. Dale was given a one off shot in a team car to Dave's after some pretty impressive runs in scattered starts throughout '78 in underfunded equipment. Although he finished 4th to Dave's 3rd, the team was so impressed with Dale's raw potential, they decided to run two teams in '79 full time. Dave was no dummy, back then two cars was a death sentence, especially when you are in the second car on the totem pole (see Bonnett, Neil '84-'86). Dave could see the team liked Dale a lot more since he was willing to drive the car to the limit, showing just how fast their cars truly were, while Dave never stuck a fender in any tight spots, and while his consistency could get nice points finishes, it led to less wins and less fun. He saw the writing on the wall and quit the team. 10. Billy P posted: 01.17.2014 - 11:38 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Had Pearson in the pool that day. Looked like a winner on lap 301 as he drove by Marcis on lap 301. Turns out Dave was cooling his tires and 14 laps later he drove by Pearson. Lost the pool but a great job by Marcis. Jack Donohue,in Dean Dalton's car,on the start, forgot to shift to fourth gear. Lots of cars spinning,G.C.Spencer's getting the worst of it. Myself,Mike Hill, and Cecil Gordon stopped by Reed Camshafts the day before qualifying, only to find Richie Panch working on his Ford, scattered in hundreds of pieces. We worked late into the morning and got it back together. Richie was a fine person that we were glad to help out. Back in those days that was pretty much the norm. Racin'n was fun! 11. Source: Dale Earnhardt's slide show presentation he narrated and they put together for the Nascar Awards Banquet in 1994. Show's pictures of cars he drove throughout his career while he talked about the owners and whatnot. This car was torn up bad in that wreck. 14. Somehow despite all the damage that car wasn't complete scrap metal, it was rebuilt and Johnny Rutherford raced it at Daytona the following year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
