Darrell Waltrip, Bobby & Donnie Allison, Richard Petty, and Dave Marcis among those with blown engines. Buddy Baker (transmission) and Cale Yarborough (clutch) also DNF's. With so many stars in the garage early, the door was left open for a lot of independents to have decent finishes. 14. Pearson finishing second in points is fitting given he won ten races. Bobby blew his engine and after the race told Penske he was leaving the team - this after Penske had issued a press release at Atlanta that Bobby would return. 15. RaceFanX posted: 12.27.2018 - 8:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This race saw the rare occurrence of both a husband and wife being entered in the same NASCAR race looking to race against each other as IndyCar competitors Mike and Arlene Hiss both attempted to qualify for the race. This possible matrimony milestone didn't come to pass as Arlene Hiss failed to qualify although the late Mike Hiss, as mentioned above, did both qualify for and finish the race. I don't think NASCAR has ever seen a husband and wife race each other in the Cup series, although Elton Sawyer and Patty Moise raced each other many times in the Busch series during the 1990s (both made Cup starts but never together). Drivers Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. famously dated while racing each other but they never tied the knot. In Australia though Garth and Leanne Tander raced each other in the V8 Supercars. 21. RaceFanX posted: 12.27.2018 - 8:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Adding to #20... Actually there's a twist to the Hiss story I just found out. Mike Hiss and Arlene Hiss had been married but by the time of this race they had gotten divorced. Wouldn't that have been fun to have together on the track. Arlene Hiss was the first one to run a USAC Champ Car race and this was her only Cup attempt. 22.
