Last Cup race without a Virginia driver. As of the 2013 Ford 400 (with
Denny Hamlin, Jeff Burton, and Elliott Sadler), this 1198 race streak is
the longest active string of Cup races for any actively represented
State in NASCAR.

The Permatex 300 for Sportsman Cars was run the day before this race.
The winner was Ivan Baldwin followed by James Sanderson, Ron Esau, Rick
McCray and Tony Heckert. L.D. Ottinger made the trip west and sat on the
pole but fell out part way thru the race.

So since Virginia's streak ended at Fontana a few months after that
comment, does anyone know what state has the current longest consecutive
start streak? I'm leaning towards Indiana, but I might be wrong.

I'm not sure. Between Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Ernie Irvan alone
California's streak stretches back into the late 1988. North Carolina
has the all-time record but it ended when Dale Earnhardt, Jr. missed a
few races in 2012.

I think I just answered my own question. Jamie Mac hasn't missed a race
since 2002, and his start streak overlaps with Rusty's. So Missouri
hasn't missed a race since the 1984 Daytona 500. Meaning that their
streak is exactly contemporaneous with the #5's streak of most
consecutive starts with a single team.

You can see that #67 Easley started 6th on outside 3rd row and #15 Baker
started 7th on inside 4th row.
