No, That was his first start in 1976, not 1977.

Longest ever race at Rockingham, more than five hours of racing. Bring
back one 500 miler back to the Rock!

This was the first year that the track had the "Bear Grease" sealer
applied to it like Darlington had done for a number of years. The track
was extremely slick.

Also the race was postponed due to rain.

The Pit crew completion was held in conjunction with this race. The
Petty crew led by Maurice Petty won, the final standings look like this:

Richard Petty picks up his third Rockingham win in a row, turning in a
dominant drive to add another trophy after winning both races here in
1977. His streak finally ended the following fall when he finished
second to Donnie Allison.
