Nord Krauskopf's last race as an owner

Nord Krauskopf sold his team after this event to Jim Stacy with the
famed red #71 Dodge getting repainted into the white #5, Neil Bonnett
stayed aboard as driver

Neil gave the red #71 a fine send-off in its last race however,
finishing a respectable 7th

As for the race for the win, Richard Petty wins in dominating fashion
although David Pearson put up a fight

This was a very memorable race for my wife and I, it was our very first
NASCAR race. We drove from WI on Saturday, and drove home on Monday. My
favorite driver won and making it even more special 30 years later Mr.
Petty (The King) signed our tickets. Can't get much better!

First Cup race that both Ricky Rudd and Bill Elliott started, as they
each were running events for a year prior to this which one or both of
them would skip.

Petty had a huge lead by halfway and my wife and I hit the exits.

Bruce Jacobi flipped his car during what was apparently a group
qualifying session to determine the rear of the field. Rick Newsom spun
his car off of turn three and was struck in the back end by Jacobi in a
sickening impact so hard that it both sent Jacobi flying into a violent
somersault and ripped the engine completely out of Newsom's car, despite
Jacobi having hit him in the rear. Incredibly, Jacobi was all right, but
Newsom suffered a broken leg.

Dean Dalton was driving Henley Gray's car when it crashed on lap 64. It
looked a lot like Dean Dalton's car with a #19 painted on.

I was gonna ask if #19 was the right name. It said Dean Dalton in the 19
when he crashed. They also mentioned he had a bad crash at Talladega 3
years earlier left Dean out for a year.

Dean Dalton did qualify for Henley Gray. Also Bill Dennis qualified for
Harold Miller.
