This was the only lead lap finish for a Ronnie Elder owned car. Lennie
Pond drove it to a fifth-place effort.

Neil Bonnett's first win came in just his fifth start after Jim "J.D."
Stacy took ownership of the ex-Nord Krauskopf team and changed the red
#71 Dodge over to the white #5. Neil had never finished higher than
fourth, at Bristol earlier in the year, before he broke through for this
big victory.
