Pearson walked across the track in front of the cars to exit the track and was pulled over for speeding while leaving the track. The police officer reportedly quipped "I watched the first part of the race and you didn't pass anyone the whole time, I don't know why you want to start now." 3. myself posted: 01.27.2012 - 11:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) 2. I was at this race and the #54 was all blue and had Lennie Pond Fan Club on the quarterpanels. 5. This victory gave Cale and Junior Johnson's Holly Farms #11 squad its third win in a row at the famed Virginia paperclip. 8. I'm not sure the truth of the cop story listed above but David Pearson did indeed hand the #21 Mercury over to Donnie Allison just before halfway. Pearson was getting sick because of fumes in the car and had to get out because of it. Sam Sommers turns in an impressive run to finish fifth. This was his second top-5 but his last top-5 and top-10 finish in Cup competition. 9.
