Donnie was definitely in a Monte Carlo. Benny Parsons took the last
Laguna win at Charlotte a race earlier.

Yes. There was only one other Plymouth entry in 1977, in the season
opener at Riverside. That was with driver Gary Matthews and owner David
Hill, who were both West Coast based.

@11 - actually, Hill entered his car at Ontario, the last race of the
season, altho they DNQ. So that would count as the last Cup race for
Plymouth.

Suprisingly (to me at least) Plymouth was gone from Cup racing before
AMC, since Jocko Maggiacomo entered an ex-Penske Matador in several
races in 1978.

Richard Petty comes up 7.8 seconds short of a fourth-straight Rockingham
victory. Donnie Allison's victory was the first at the Rock for another
driver since Cale Yarborough won here two years earlier.

This win from the pole was the third win for the Donnie Allison/Hoss
Ellington combination but the first where Donnie got to take the
checkered flag in the famous red Hawaiian Tropic #1 Chevrolet. The pair
won at Charlotte a year earlier with Ellington's own company still
sponsoring them and their first win in the Hawaiian Tropic colors came
at Talladega during the summer but with Darrell Waltrip driving in
relief after Donnie had to get out of the car.
