Both of their Chargers were aerodynamic 1974 models, the 1975 onward models until the car's 1977-78 demise were too boxy for NASCAR use, and this was the final race were they were eligible for competition before they gave way to new Dodge Magnum race cars in 1978. Petty and Bonnett both stuck with Mopar into 1978 racing the very boxy new Magnums but switched to General Motors products mid-season after the cars proved too uncompetitive. 14. kup posted: 11.14.2017 - 1:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) UPS: universal points system. Wlodyka is likely better remember now for moving over to be a mechanic with Rod Osterlund's team to help out with the new driver he recommended they hire to replace him behind the wheel, a young buck named Dale Earnhardt. 16. He ran in all nine of the Cup races that were run here, led eight of them, clinched a championship here, and finished in the top-5 every time his #43 was running at the finish but he never made it into the winner's circle at the "Indianapolis of the West." 18. One day prior, Chuck Bown won the 200 mile Late Model Sportsman race here. 19. That is still the best points finish for a woman during the Cup Series' modern era but that record could deserve an asterisk; Guthrie missed 11 races this year while racing against a field where only 10 drivers started every race. Danica Patrick's best points finish would be a pair of 24ths (in 2015 and 2016) but she ran every race against much more loaded full-time fields but you could argue it either way. The all-time best is still Sara Christian's 13th in 1949 although she too missed a few races. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
