Ribbs got fired from it because he was arrested for reckless driving (sounds like Kurt and Kyle Busch). He was then noticed by Rod Osterlund which put him in a championship winning car. Where would Earnhardt be if it wasn't for Willie T. Ribbs? 2. It was a good weekend for Morgan as he won a 100 mile late model sportsman race one day earlier. The drivers listed as 600 DNQ' s were among those added to the back of the field for the LMS event. 20. Ribbs thing was a "publicity stunt", and if you watch the documentary "Uppity" on Netflix you will think that was either an excuse to not have him run or made up entirely. Willie claims he was receiving a ton of death threats from people not wanting a black driver in Nascar and was told he wasn't allowed to run in the race because of it. They interviewed Humpy Wheeler in the documentary too and he said that he also was getting death threats from people saying they would kill him if he let Willie drive in the race and admitted it scared him enough to where he made sure he pulled Willie from the race. When Willie came back to Nascar in 1986 it still hadn't changed. The chorus of venomous boos he got during driver introductions at North Wilkesboro was disgusting. He made claims of people messing with the already poor equipment he was driving to get him out of the ride. 23. Ribbs as a WD for this race since he was initially entered in not one, but 2 different cars, one that completely withdrew (Humpy Wheeler's) and one that went to Earnhardt? 25. rateus posted: 02.13.2021 - 7:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Coo Coo Marlin qualified for Sterling Marlin, Elmo Langley qualified for Frank Warren and Ferrel Harris qualified for Baxter Price. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
