Richard Childress posted his best career finish as a driver in this
every - 3rd place. Everyone remembers Childress as a car owner, but he
was fine racer in his own right - at the time, he was in the middle of a
six year streak finishing 11th or better in points, with a high of 5th
in 1975.

Out of 840 laps @ Nashville in 78', Cale led 831 of em'. Amazing!
Another feat by Cale that will never be duplicated....@ any track!

Walter Ballard's did not start here in James Hylton's #48 marked the
independent underdog's final Winston Cup entry.

Cale Yarborough gets the season sweep at Nashville on his way to the
championship. This was an impressive win given he beat Darrell Waltrip
by over two laps to claim the trophy on what was essentially DW's home
track.

Here's some interesting facts:

Lennie Pond won the pole for both Nashville races in 1978, but never led
a single lap in either race.

Cale Yarborough started 2nd in both races, and won by over 2 laps.

Cale also led 831 of 840 laps run at Nashville in 1978.

And he led a whopping 1753 laps in 10 short track races that season
(average of 175.3 per race!) He led 3587 laps in total that year, which
is crazy to think about. Nowadays, leading 2000 in a season is rare and
very difficult.
