DK Ulrich lost the rest of his 1978 season as a result of a MAJOR rules
infraction at this race.

Nitrous Oxide was found in his car, and as per NASCAR Rules, he was
suspended for the course of the 1978 season.

Also, remember, someone made his NASCAR debut this day.

It was Terry Labonte. He was 11 laps down at the end, but he finished
4th. A very impressive debut.

He got caught with nitrous oxide after he had a crash DNF. What a pain
in the ass!

There's something about Terry Labonte & Darlington! He & "The Lady in
Black" had a very special relationship!

Excellent 1st career start for my hero Terry Labonte. 2 yrs later he would
win this race for his 1st in cup.

Neil Bonnett hit a telophone pole exiting the pits and the cables were
thrown around the pits. No one was injured.

Neil Bonnett & strange wrecks are synonymous. The one @ Pocono where he
hit a deer cannot be topped!

Darrell Waltrip hit Neil Bonnett on pit road forcing Neil into the
outside pit wall. He hooked the cables from a pole and pulled them down
across pit road. Also, Dave Marcis was driving in relief for Petty at
the end of the race.

Starting line-up shows Al Holbert qualified the #48 so he should be
listed as a driver change.
