J.D. McDuffie set the pole for this race using McCreary tires. The pole
was J.D.'s Finest hour.

For those who don't know, McCreary Tires give a massive speed boost for
a short time. In the actual race, the tires' epic boost lasted eight laps.

Pole day was a good day for the independents. In addition to J.D.'s
legendary pole Richard Childress put his #3 CRC Oldsmobile third on the
grid to record his best-ever Cup qualifying run. He converted his fast
pace into a solid top-15 run.
