Waltrip said that Cale should be on probation and "Up there, learning how to drive." Millikan gave up his seat on lap 240 to Richard Petty, who was caught up in the lap 10 crash. Petty came from two laps down, largely because Allison ran out of gas, and was running down Allison when, with 13 laps to go, Millikan got back in the car because of burns on Petty's feet since the King drove in his cowboy boots after sending his racing shoes back to Level Cross. 10. myself posted: 05.14.2010 - 11:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Why did this wreck draw the ire of many drivers? 11. 18fan posted: 07.22.2010 - 3:11 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) myself, the drivers felt Cale blatantly blocked Donnie and caused the wreck. Also between the Daytona 500 and this race Bill Gazaway, the dumbass of NASCAR at the time, decided the wreck at Daytona was Donnie Allison's fault when it was a racing incident going for the Daytona 500 win. 12. Sure they were racing for the Daytona 500, but Allison clearly was at fault. 13. 18fan posted: 06.21.2011 - 12:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yes it was, but none of the drivers(except Cale, obviously)thought it was Donnie's fault. I think I should have said it that way. 14. mkl62 posted: 04.23.2012 - 10:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) When Donnie and Cale wrecked early in the race, it took out Richard Petty and knocked Darrell Waltrip out of contention. Both were hot at Donnie and Cale since NASCAR did nothing to them this time. That really set up a showdown for the postponed race at Richmond. 15. David posted: 06.29.2012 - 11:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Joe Millikan almost won this race with the help of a relief driver, Richard Petty. Millikan's back was aching, so Petty got in, but he had his cowboy boots on. Petty was closing in on Bobby Allison when the discomfort in his feet forced him to pit, essentially handing the race to Allison. 16.
