Their A-Z driver listings also doesn't list a Lawrence Fields. 2. myself posted: 02.14.2007 - 4:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cale's first win (wouldn't been 2nd if not for bonehead Donnie Allison) for Busch! 3. Ricky Rudd drove the #90 as a Chevy in this race, the first time the #90 was a Chevy in 19 years 4. mkl62 posted: 04.23.2012 - 10:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Never in the history of NASCAR had there been so much press coverage. After the Allison-Yarborough fight at Daytona and the crash at Rockingham, the media was out for blood. They just knew that something was going to happen. Even Donnie was feeling the heat. He had gotten a death threat from a Cale fan threatening to throw a bottle through his windshield when they got to Atlanta. But nothing happened. Cale won the race and for the most part blasted the bandwagon media for doing what they did. As far as everyone involved was concerned, the feud was over. 5. There is one thing that he got wrong about Donnie Allison, though. He said that at the end of 1979, Donnie and Hoss Ellington parted ways. Actually, they started out 1980 together. Donnie and Terry LaBonte crashed at Atlanta in March 1980. Afterwards, Donnie left the Hoss Ellington team. David Pearson came aboard and won the Rebel 500. Allison became what was then termed a saddle tramp, racing for whoever would take him on with very little funding. Sadly, his career ended after a vicious crash at the 1981 World 600 in Charlotte. 8. Though nowhere near as competitive, he raced part time in Cup well into the mid 80's. 11. zuel660 posted: 10.25.2018 - 3:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Anyone know why the Donlavey #90 was a Chevy for this race? Could it have been Rudd's own car, run with Junie's team/number? 12. Ricky Rudd was the driver of #22 Al Rudd Chevrolet that was repainted with #90 and sponsor Truxmore on its race car. Only the hood, roof, and trunk had the usual red stripes but the sides were solid blue, albeit with the while lines in place that usually bordered the red sections. This wasn't a deliberate throwback to the King's earlier success in all-blue cars as the altered scheme was actually a remnant of STP's initial decision to dial back its sponsorship of Petty, especially at the schedule's minor races, following his winless season in 1978. With less sponsorship money expected Petty Enterprises prepared the #43 for Richmond with the all-blue scheme to account for the change in payment and to show STP what they could expect with less funding but Richard's big win at the Daytona 500, his fast-rising racer son Kyle Petty's ARCA win at Daytona sponsored by rival Valvoline, and the increased exposure that resulted led to the two sides renegotiating and STP backtracking to renew its sponsorship in full. This was the only race for the blue #43 Chevrolet as it soon be back in its usual two-tone colors for the rest of the season. 14.
