Darrell Busham is probably Darrell Basham? 4. samfan08 posted: 03.12.2008 - 5:12 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) McDuffie did finish 3rd in another race, but he only led 5 laps there. This was his best all around run. 5. Dtroppens posted: 07.13.2008 - 5:05 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) McDuffie finished higher before but leading 111 laps had to make this his top race of all time. He never had a race that he came close to leading this many laps in his entire career. Joe Millikan led the first 31 laps and McDuffie took the lead from him. He led and later hooked fenders with Cale Yarborough while battling for second place during the 52nd lap. Both spun out but both were able to contine. McDuffie had a shot to win this thing when he took the lead from Richard Petty on the 250th lap, leading 27 more laps, but lost TWO LAPS when he had to pit for fresh tires. Richard Petty was convinced he won the race. He thought he lost a lap when he spun out with McDuffie and lost 46 seconds when he spun out of the pits on lap 178. "I was running laps at 22 seconds. What does that tell you," Petty remarked. Even third-place Bobby Allison thought Petty won with him taking second. "Petty won this race and I finished second. I don't know how they had Cale winning," Allison said. I love reading about the independent drivers. Too bad McDuffie couldn't get this one. 6. This was his seventh and final Cup win at this popular Tennessee short track. 16. JSPorts posted: 01.19.2018 - 12:47 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Cale was a beast at Nashville. I wish this track was still active today, it would be fun to watch the racing there. We need more short tracks. 17. rm posted: 03.23.2018 - 4:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Darrell Basham places 24th in his only Cup start. He's planning on returning to the Nashville Fairgrounds for the upcoming 2018 ARCA race there, which would be his first start at the track in nearly 40 years - since this very race. 18. As a result Bobby Allison's third-place run allowed him to chop 60 points off DW's points lead. Waltrip was previously a local racer at Nashville and tended to be a factor whenever the Cup tour came here, he'd finish in the top-5 of every subsequent Cup race here after this one until the track left the schedule after 1984. In fact this was the only time Waltrip was running at the finish of a race at Nashville where he wasn't in the top-5. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
