Bonnett's first win for the Wood Brothers and the first win for the #21
without David Pearson driving since AJ Foyt at Ontario in 1972.

cale had a lap lead on bonnett going into the last green flag pit stop.
cale's team changed four tires while neil's changed two putting him back
in the same lap. when a caution flew with just a few laps to go ,
bonnett came in , changed tires, and came out right behind cale. he had
the edge he needed to win.

This was only Bonnett's third start in the #21, he hadn't finished
either of his first two before this win.

Louis Gatto ended up sidelined early by a blown engine but his
27th-place finish, mostly because of the short field, was still his best
in Winston Cup. Hey, any day you finish ahead of Richard Petty is a good
one. This was the second of Gatto's three Cup starts.

Tommy Gale qualified 26th but took over Butch Mock's car for the race,
Gale's car was raced by Elmo Langley. Steve Gray also qualified for Dick
May.

No sign of Dick Brooks on the qualifying times, if he is a driver change
it happened before qualifying.
