David Pearson was subbing for Dale Earnhardt. Dale missed 4 races, all
was ran by Pearson. This 7th place finish was the worst David would
finish in those 4 races for Rod Osterlund.

Earnhardt was a rookie... Missed four races and still finished with
rookie of the year and finished in top 10 of standings. Now that is a
man and won the championship next year. If you would have put Earnhardt
in the 21 or the 43 during their prime his winning percentage would
probably be any where from 33-50%

Darrell Waltrip wins at Bristol for the second time. He only won two
races here for DiGard but would go on to win 12 races here over the
course of his career.

Grand National Scene says Ricky Rudd drove a Chevy in this race.

The start was delayed for 45 minutes and first 32 laps were run under
caution because of the wet conditions.

Junie Donlavey #90 Truxmore sponsor Ford/Mercury must had wrecked or
engine trouble during practice? Ricky Rudd was the driver of #22 Al Rudd
Chevrolet that was repainted with #90 and sponsor Truxmore on its race car.
This is second time that #90 race car owner Junie Donlavey and driver
Ricky Rudd used Al Rudd #22 Chevrolet in a 1979 race.
#22 Chevrolet was repainted #90 and sponsor Truxmore on its race car.

Richard Petty won his final pole and turned in a great second-place run
at the wheel of a Chevrolet Caprice instead of his usual Monte Carlo.

Richard Petty traditionally didn't run alcohol sponsorships or decals
but the rule wasn't absolute. After Petty won the pole for this race a
small Busch Beer sticker was added to the front fender of his STP #43
for the race. He continued to run a Busch decal for the rest of the
season as part of becoming eligible for the Busch Clash at Daytona in
1980 but the sticker vanished never to return afterward.
