But from research I've done by looking through old newspapers on Google News Archive, it looks like it was Lennie Pond who qualified the Henley Gray-owned Natural Light car 22nd. Why Lennie was pulled for Cecil I don't yet know. Either way, I need a pic of that #19 Natty Light Chevy! 2. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 11.13.2014 - 2:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 14-17: debris turn 3 Caution 2: Lap 27-31: #31,71,81 accident backstretch Caution 3: Lap 61-69: #12 spin frontstretch Caution 4: Lap 72-75: #75 accident turn 2 Caution 5: Lap 102-107: #89 accident turn 1 Caution 6: Lap 115-119: #68 spin turn 4 Caution 7: Lap 223-226: #72 accident turn 4 Caution 8: Lap 280-282: #28,77 accident turn 3 3. I don't know what the deal was with Jimmy Means starting it, but he pulled it behind the wall after one lap. Buddy Baker crashed after racing side by side with Cale Yarborough, they came upon the slower Ridley car and tried to pass it each side, Buddy's car got loose and he spun into the inside wall out of turn four. 5. Jarrett dropped out when the oil pump belts were knocked off causing the engine to expire. 6. Alot of close running until about 1/2 way - then tire issues started to spread out the field and drivers took turns running up front, pitting, etc. Baker appeared to be the guy to beat - but Cale ran him down and during the duel for the lead Baker slapped the wall and then spun into the inside fence. I hate to say typical Buddy...but it was. Cale indicated in the post race interview he ran too low a gear - so had to sort of ride and was lucky everyone else had trouble. 8. Brickhouse's lone start of the 1979 season lasted less than 20 laps before mechanical problems sent him to the sidelines. This was his lone start of the season and it would be more than three years before the former Cup race winner would make another start in the series. 9. rm posted: 02.13.2017 - 1:50 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) 9 different drivers led a lap in the first 42 laps of the race thanks to a pair of cautions - a rarity outside of true superspeedway races. 10. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 02.13.2017 - 3:53 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) John Anderson started 16th, finished 16th and led only one lap... Also, his car number was half of 16 (#08), and he eventually had a total of 32 career starts (16 doubled). This was the only lap he ever led, though. He didn't have much of a career, but he definitely gave us some mathematically interesting numbers to look at! 12. Ricky's family had very little money, they had put their money into his race car, and they weren't sure how they were going to pay to have his body sent back home for burial. AJ Foyt heard about this, and paid to have Ricky taken back home and paid for the burial. 15. Others were Roger Hamby qualifying for Steve Pfeifer, Coo Coo Marlin qualifying for Jimmy Means, Bill Dennis qualifying for Baxter Price, Joe Frasson qualifying for James Hylton and HB Bailey qualifying for Frank Warren. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
