Parsons had a lap lead at one point, but Petty got his lap back and got
the five extra points for winning as Darrell Waltrip was black flagged
for smoke, when there was no oil, proving NASCAR's Bill Gazaway to be
the sanctioning body's biggest dumbass of the time.

The famous wrestler Andre the Giant attended this race. There is a
picture of Andre standing, towering over, the 6'5" tall Buddy Baker, for
a humorous photo op.

Bill Elliott ran this race for Roger Hamby in the latter's #17 Kings Inn
Chevrolet. He wouldn't run a Chevrolet in a Cup race again until the
2006 Daytona 500.

Cup debut for Randy Ogden. Unusually he was running on an FIA license at
the time, which is why none of his 1979 starts score points.

Indeed. Andre the Giant was the grand marshal for this race and they
certainly had fun with his visit. There's another photo where he is with
two of the Union 76 trophy girls and holding both of them up with one in
each hand.
