Did Cale wreck his car in Practice and have to go to a backup Oldsmobile ?

Cale definitely missed first-round qualifying, not that it slowed him
down any - the 139.905 shown as the pole speed for this race is Cale's
second-round speed. Darrell Waltrip actually secured pole at 136.765,
still second quickest overall!

To be fair to Darrell I think the second-round qualifiers must have had
much better conditions. Cecil Gordon's 9th quickest speed from that
session was identical to Terry Labonte's 16th quickest speed from the
first round and, Cale aside, none of those later qualifiers was in
front-rank rides.
