This was the final race for legendary owner L.G. Dewitt, who was the
Championship car owner for Benny Parsons in 1973.

Note: H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, the vice President and General Manager (at
the time) of Charlotte Motor Speedway, was the Grand marshal for the
25th annual running of the Virginia 500.

The Modified series ran the Azalea 150 the day before this race. The
winner was Richie Evans with Ron Bouchard 2nd followed by Mark Malcuit,
Satch Worley and Tommy Comerford.

The episode of Dale Jr's podcast with Ernie Irvan mentioned this race as
where Richard Petty pointed his finger at Dale Sr's chest to get his
crap together after Dale caused a huge crash at the very beginning of
the race. Mike Davis noted the irony of arguably the most aggressive
driver in NASCAR history telling another aggressive driver to calm down.

Ironic or not, hopefully the fact that it was Petty calling him out made
Earnhardt think about what he did. When it's another aggressive driver
saying that, you know you messed up.

I went to YouTube to watch the beginning of this race just now. Man,
Mike Joy was doing the play by play back then. This guy has truly been
around a lot longer than I imagined

Apparently Darrell came from 4 laps down to win this race. This included
a two lap penalty for pitting when the puts were closed/ This came from
FOX show, "Masters of the clock: Legends of Martinsville"
