I thought I heard Darrell Waltrip talking about a Southern 500 where
three guys hit oil and hit the wall on the final lap. Terry Labonte was
the only one who didn't and won the race. Was that this one?

Awesome finish ! Terry was a bumper ahead of Pearson as they raced to
the caution flag.

I was at this race. DW dominated, had a 2 lap lead. Hit the wall, lost 1
lap, then hit it hard again and was done. Then it was a war between
Pearson, Earnhardt and Benny. They all hit an oil slick from Frank
Warren's blown engine and hit the wall. Terry Labonte beat Pearson back
to the line. Great, great race.

Pearson kept going after he spanked the wall and still almost won this
race, Labonte ran him down coming off four, pulled to the inside and
only beat the Silver Fox to the line by a nose.

Pearson actually battled back from 2 laps down when he spanked the wall
on lap 1. He made a pit stop to change tires and some repairs and went
on his way. His car got better as a long green flag run went on and had
the dominate car of the day after Waltrip went out.

Richard Petty used Joe Millikan as a relief driver. Petty was running
ninth before the swap. He had a brace for both his neck and ribs after a
bad crash earlier in the year at Pocono.

To show how irrelevant lead lap finishes were at the time. This was only
Texas Terry's 2nd lead lap finish in his career, but his 7th Top 5 and
26th Top 10.
