I recall Benny Parsons talking about a race at Charlotte (I think it was
this one) in which he was leading, and Dale Earnhardt came up behind
him, running through the corners sideways. He got to the inside of
Benny, and he was passing him while running sideways. Benny thought to
himself, "This guy's crazy! I'll just sit back here and wait 'til he
crashes." But Dale continued to drive away from him sliding through the
turns like he was on dirt. If it was this race, driving that way was the
right way.

If it was this one, it was apparently Benny that was doing the crashing.

Was Baker in 3rd ACTUALLY a Buick or do they actually mean Oldsmobile?

Baker was in a Buick for this race. In fact, Buicks were somewhat common
in superspeedway races in '78-80 for GM teams, before becoming the
dominant make of Nascar in '81 & '82.

Doug Richert's next win as a crew chief after this race was when Greg
Biffle won at Michigan in August of 2004.

Last time Motor Racing Network would cover a Charlotte Motor Speedway
Cup points race. Performance Racing Network would debut to cover both
points races at CMS in 1981. MRN would return in 1985 to cover the 1st
All Star Race, an agreement that has remained since then.

since they take place during All-Star Race weekend.

The Sportsman div ran the Charlotte 300 the day before. The winner was
Dave Marcis, Dale Earnhardt was second followed by David Pearson, Ray
Hendrick and Jody Ridley
