The last ever pole for a Mercury in the next to last ever race for the
manufacturer in Cup, & it's cool that a pair of Merc's occupied the
front row.

This race marked a nice run of 7 straight top 10s for Jody Ridley and
the Donlavey team, and after the finale at Ontario, a 7th place points
finish to end the season.

Cecil Gordon took over the car qualified by Dick May after missing the
field in his own entry. In addition Glenn Jarrett qualified for Roger
Hamby.
