Benny Parsons and Richard Petty got together avoiding it and the rest piled in. 6. Dean Combs won in a Datsun followed by Larry Hoopaugh in second and the only other car on the lead lap. Larry Pearson was 3rd, Jerry Whittington 4th, and Mickey York 5th. Kirk Shelmerdine was 30th. The Dash cars never came back to Talladega. 10. Rebhan fired John Anderson after his famous flip during the Daytona 125 qualifier earlier in the season and brought in Allison to replace him but the partnership would be short-lived, the team ran the next two superspeedway races but shut down after a crash in the World 600. The Rebhan team had crew chief Harry Hyde turning the wrenches so its strong runs at Daytona and Talladega shouldn't be as surprising as it might look at first glance. 11. All the big wreck chaos came early in the race, not in the closing laps. Also, there were only 4 cars on the lead lap at the end of the race, where today it's nearly everyone who hasn't been involved in a wreck or had a mechanical failure. But, from the last restart to the checkers, the handful of cars that were on the lead lap could swap the lead back and forth easily and put on a terrific show. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
