Billy P posted: 01.20.2014 - 11:23 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) Morgan Sheperd and Cecil struck an agreement the day of the race for Morgan to drive the 24 car. Morgan set the car himself. Cecil had built the motor. The combination worked. 104 laps led under green. Waddell Wilson came up to Cecil later and asked what he "had" in the motor,as Morgan was pulling Bobby 3 car lengths down the straights. The night ended in a cloud of rear end smoke in turns 2&3 while running in the top 3. Cecil had stared DK's car just for the points. In the early 70's Cecil,with his brother Lee as crew chief,and a dedicated and quite capable weekend crew, qualified 2nd,twice. Several top five and top 10 finishes were the result. 4. I found a pic floating around Facebook with a caption from what appeared to be the 1981 yearbook showing Earnhardt wrecked at Bristol, on pit road, driving the #3. 7.
