Note: first race for Tim Richmond behind the wheel of Bob Rogers #37.
Mike Alexander just been fired due to his poor results in the last 3
races. Note that Larry McReynolds, then aged 22, is the assistant crew
chief of Raymond Kelly for car # 37.

The #21 team skipped the prior race at Richmond so Neil Bonnett and the
Wood Brothers came into Dover hot off winning the Southern 500 in their
last appearance. Their white-and-red Ford was again the car to beat here
as they lapped the field on their win to a dominant victory.

Spring race winner Jody Ridley and his Junie Donlavey #90 team had to
settle for 11th-place here, eight laps down, here in their return.

Note: Rick Newsom drove the car #20 in qualifying but Cecil Gordon drove
the car in the race.
