Mark Martin starts and finishes in the Top 5 in his 5th career Winston
Cup start. After leading 40 laps, he earns his first Top 5. As of today,
he has 228 Top 5s.

Morgan Shepherd blew a right front tire while leading and hit the wall
so hard his car got up on two wheels.

Harry Gant gets snake-bit again........ He came in for a pit stop with
less than 10 to go, then he ran over a piece of metal leaving pit road
and had to pit again, handing the win to Darrell Waltrip.

Geoff Bodine outfitted his #01 Buick in this race with the NASCAR Cup
Series' first-ever power steering system for this race. It paid off,
becoming a series standard within a year, and Bodine ran great early in
this one before a different mechanical issue put him on the sidelines.

Gary Balough qualified P17 before withdrawing, he was not replaced in
the line-up.
