Take look at his car number and sponsor, and tell me either one of them would not be a sign of things to come. This was also 1988 Busch Champion Tommy Ellis' only Winston Cup Top 10. 2. Sterling picked the number when he started his late model career at Nashville and carried it over to a limited # of starts in the family car in Cup. Coors also sponsored his late model at Nashville in the early 80s before he made the jump the Cup full time in the late 80s. So he had that early relationship that I'm sure helped him land the ride and bigger sponsorship at SABCO. 6. His 1981 was similar to Geoff Bodine's 1994. 8. The Great Dave posted: 01.02.2012 - 2:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Norm Negre's last start as an owner. 9. This was the only race between the start of the 1981 season and the second race of his rookie 1984 Cup season at Richmond that Rusty, at the time a racer in ASA, actually finished. 10. It was a combo race between the Late Model Sportsman (112 inch wheelbase) and Nascars new Grand American Stock Car division (108 inch wheelbase), but it appears that neither series awarded points. Gary Balough won in LMS Pontiac followed by Mark Martin, Ricky Rudd, Darrell Waltrip in a Camaro and Sam Ard. 11. There is a clear shot of the 88 Buick running behind the 14 Coors Chevy of Sterling Marlin, the only time he ran in 1981. 12.
