Another note is that J.D. Stacey is the listed sponsor for six of the cars in the vent - but his own car finished the worst of them. 3. The car just broke loose though and went into a quick spin as it would if 1 wheel suddenly quit turning. 13. 1995z71 posted: 02.12.2013 - 3:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The only win for Car Owner Dave Marcis ;) 14. From looking at the video I've seen it looks like they waited at least 2 hours before making the decision. 18. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 04.03.2015 - 8:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 11-16: #50,71 accident turn 3 Caution 2: Lap 20-22: debris Caution 3: Lap 37-41: #37,75 accident turn 4 Caution 4: Lap 142-146: #33 engine failure Caution 5: Lap 190-197: #02 accident turn 2 Caution 6: Lap 245-250: #2 accident frontstretch 19. Joe Ruttman was leading when he crashed and Marcus had just been put a lap down, so Ruttman crashed, Marcus gets his lap back and takes the win on pit strategy despite being lapped right before. 20. No one was hurt and the team repaired the car for the race. 22. SweetRich posted: 02.15.2020 - 10:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The Commentators For The Race Were Bob Jenkins And Larry Nuber. Canadianfan posted: 04.20.2021 - 10:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @21 From Gary Nelson: NASCAR did not allow backup cars in those days. The NASCAR garage also had a firm time to close. We repaired the car outside the track in the Richmond Fairground, Livestock building. I have been extra particular about throttle linkage on any race car I have worked on ever since. 27. possum posted: 04.21.2021 - 6:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @26 - dunno if NASCAR formally banned them, or if it was just that nobody had backup cars. In 82 the big semi-trailer style haulers were just starting to appear, and many teams used a straight truck or a pull-behind trailer, and wouldn't have had room for a backup car if they were legal. Back then you still heard stories of teams tearing their car down in a motel parking lot, or if they were lucky the garage of a local racer. Different from today, where you're not allowed to take the car from the track after checking in on race weekend. The Holley carb had a bit of a design defect, where if the throttle linkage had enough travel you could pull the throttle arm over-center, which would cause the return spring to pull the wrong way. Now-a-days most (if not all) drivers have a bar welded above the accelerator pedal which lets them pull the throttle back in the closed direction with their foot (even with fuel injection they're still used, on the "better safe than sorry" theory). 28. 1995-Subaru-WRX-Sti posted: 04.21.2021 - 10:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Teams were still on a shoe-string budget back then. Nowadays teams have basically a whole shop in their haulers along with another car. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
