Wright, a con artist who managed to swindle people into financing him getting a ride for this race...possibly without ever having driven a race car before. Wright disappeared after this race, and has not been seen or heard from since. 9. Alex posted: 06.10.2015 - 11:26 am Rate this comment: (3) (0) I give L.W. Wright credit: he did pretty good for a person who had probably never driven a race car before. 10. The winner was Jimmy Vaughn in a Ford prepared by Jack Bowsher, Billie Harvey was second followed by Scott Stovall, Gordon Blankenship and Phil Barkdoll. Red Farmer was 22. 11. What didn't this race have? 14. He was underrated, but changed driver's careers for the better. He is anything but forgotten 15. The people sitting next to him at the bar roll his eyes wondering how he came up with such a crazy story. What a legend. 19. I got a great look at the car on the grid and it is definitely not the Dodge. This makes complete sense Buddy said they used the Imperial on the big tracks since it was more aerodynamic than the Dodge. 20. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 04.22.2020 - 8:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 6-10: #54 accident backstretch Caution 2: Lap 18-22: #90 engine Caution 3: Lap 40-45: #73 stalled turn 1 Caution 4: Lap 62-66: #17 engine Caution 5: Lap 68-73: #3,24,71 accident turn 2 Caution 6: Lap 120-123: debris Caution 7: Lap 167-170: #21 oil on track Caution 8: Lap 174-177: #19 engine 21. Wright- AASCO (based off a picture of the car in National Speed Sport News, wonder how much convincing they needed to put their name on Music City Racing's quarterpanels) National Speed Sport News ran pictures of David Simko, Phillip Duffie, and L.W. Wright with their cars wondering if one of them would be the "Darrell Waltrip of 1992" as a way of highlighting that DW got his start in the Cup series at Talladega just like these three debutantes did. I don't think they worked out that way for any of them. 22. Not National Speed Sport News. My mistake. 23. Anthony posted: 04.23.2020 - 8:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) LW Wright had never raced before but still managed to out-qualify JD McDuffie. Ol' JD must have been driving some terrible equipment. 24. possum posted: 04.23.2020 - 7:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @23 - could be any number of reasons for a bad qualifying run, and it's not like Talladega puts a premium on driver skill. More to the point, it's not where you start but where you finish that counts, and McDuffie finished ahead of the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th place starters. 25.
