There's a scene near the start of the movie that kind of hints Richmond (cameoing as himself) drove for the greedy "Turkle" but that's at Daytona. It's Burt Reynolds' titular "Ace" character who spends most of the movie driving the Chicken Pit Special and it was a bright red #7 1983 Ford T-Bird. (He wins at Charlotte in the big race at the end of the season, flipping across the start-finish line) Oddly if you see that movie it correctly predicts the rise of the special paint job, Burt and his crew paint his car with a totally different look for a race at Talladega as a joke (mainly in an attempt to get fired). 8. jessie henry posted: 03.02.2011 - 2:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ford 1st won of 1982 9. He left the Woods at the end of 1982 to join RahMoc and while he'd eventually return to the team in 1989 the combination would not result in another trip to victory lane. 12. zuel660 posted: 06.25.2015 - 10:20 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) David Pearson's 14th & final career pole position at Charlotte. At one point, he captured 11 in a row, & 12 out of 13. 13. Rules were different at the time, so it could easily have been Gale drove a pace lap then pulled over and Let James get in the car. NASCAR gave points to who started the car, not who took the Green flag like they now do. 15. zuel660 posted: 05.03.2016 - 8:58 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) IIRC, Ford Motor Company officials attended this race, and the 1-2-6 finish for Fords, plus the dominance of Earnhardt's Ford before the engine let go, helped convince them to return to factory support of Nascar racing after a long hiatus. 16. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 01.19.2018 - 1:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: #0,6,19,40 accident turn 2 Caution 2: #2,28,75,98 accident turn 1 Caution 3: #73 spun turn 4 Caution 4: #62 accident turn 3 Caution 5: debris Caution 6: #70 stalled turn 3 Caution 7: #0 spun turn 4 Caution 8: #11 spun turn 2 Caution 9: #26 engine Caution 10: #98 engine 17. Both his victories at the North Carolina superspeedway came in the World 600. 18. LMSC18 posted: 09.23.2019 - 1:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Last race for the Bob Rogers race team. 19. He led a bunch of laps, got passed with 13 to go, and came up two car lengths short at the end. He would finish a close second again in the 600 in 1990, but didn't lead any laps in that race. A dominant run in the 87 600 ended with a blown engine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
